Play Caribbean Stud® Poker

It's time to play Caribbean Stud® Poker. Remember, in this particular game, it's just you versus the dealer. If there are any other players at the table, they likewise are pitted only against the dealer.

After you've put in your ante and received your five cards comes the big decision: whether to raise or fold. However, in a twist on regular poker rules, when you play Caribbean Stud® Poker you do not discard and draw new cards. You must play the five cards you are dealt. As you might imagine, a lot of the time—something like 50 percent of the time—they won't make up a great hand. Fortunately for you, the dealer faces the same problem and will often not be able to play his hand either. It is frequently in your best interest to fold, so don't be surprised when this happens.

It's easy to play Caribbean Stud® Poker because only a few things can happen, which makes the rules simple to learn. Here is what you must remember:

If you don't have a good hand, go ahead and fold. You'll just lose the ante bet.

If you raise—and your raise must be double your ante—your hand is compared to the dealer’s hand. The dealer, however, has to do something called “qualify.” This means his hand must contain an Ace and a King or better.

If the dealer does not qualify, you win even money on your ante bet. Your raise bet, though, returns to you.

If the dealer does qualify and your hand beats his, you win both the ante bet and the raise bet. See the Caribbean Stud® Poker Rules for the payoff table.

Finally, if the dealer qualifies but his hand beats yours, you lose both bets.

One other detail: if a tie happens to occur with player and dealer hands of equal rank, then both bets are a push, neither paid nor taken.

Don't forget that when you play Caribbean Stud® Poker you can also participate in the progressive jackpot. A progressive jackpot builds over time from bets made by multiple players at multiple tables. Such a jackpot can soar quickly if no one hits. When the jackpot gets large, many players consider the $1 side bet a worthwhile risk considering the potential payoff. See the Caribbean Stud® Poker Rules for the payoff table.

That's it. You're ready to play Caribbean Stud® Poker. Oh, and if you happen to have a terrible poker face, Caribbean Stud® Poker might just be perfect for you. Since you're only playing against the dealer and the dealer never folds, there's no reason to bluff in this particular game!
