A fun game of chance, Red Dog Poker is easy to learn and easy to play. Also known as simply Red Dog, Yablon, or In Between, each hand of Red Dog Poker involves only three cards and whether you win or lose your bet hinges quite simply on that third and final card. Red Dog Poker is played with a standard deck of 52 cards, but the number of decks in use varies from one casino to another, generally up to eight. Aces are high and suits do not play any role. After the wager, a Red Dog Poker game begins with the dealer putting down two cards. You’re betting on what the third card will be-and you want it to fall between the first two. It's that simple. So if, for instance, the dealer puts down a Six and a Nine, you want the third card to be a Seven or an Eight. If it is, you win. A few things to keep in mind when learning Red Dog Poker: If the first two cards are consecutive, you obviously cannot win. No cards fall between them. In this case, the hand is a push, or tie, and you lose nothing. If the first two cards have the same value, you have a chance to make some real money. The dealer will put down a third card. If it again has the same value as the first two-so you have three of a kind-the hand pays out at 11 to 1, the best possible outcome in Red Dog Poker. But if you fail to get three of a kind, it’s no big deal. The hand is simply a push. Of course, usually the first two cards are neither consecutive nor the same. In this case, the dealer will announce something called the spread. If you have a Four and a Seven, you have a two-card spread. If you have a Four and a Nine, you have a four-card spread. In Red Dog Poker, what you win depends not only on how much you bet, but also on the spread. A smaller spread means you are statistically less likely to get a third card that clinches the hand for you, so when you do, you receive a higher payout. Before the third card is drawn, a player can either double the original bet, raise up to the original wager, or simply stand. If the third cards falls between the first two, he wins. Otherwise, he loses. Although Red Dog Poker is not currently one of the more popular games in traditional casinos, it is often available in online casinos, like here at Casino Elegance. |
